Gloria Steinem would be so proud

Oh my gosh! Did you hear?! Miss USA won the Miss World pageant! Has anything ever mattered less than this?!
I don't understand pageanting anymore these days. I just don't. It used to be something that was a big deal in pop culture but now, it's really not. More than just plummeting ratings for the TV programs, the whole concept of a woman prancing around and being judged on basis of their posture or swimsuit. And yes, if Miss Congeniality taught us nothing its that its a scholarship thing, about finding real women who want to make a difference in the world. But at the core of it, that's all crap. It's about flaunting pretty women on television and we've grown tired of that. It's not interesting anymore. We want people to be more than just a pretty face.Or at least that's what we tell people. I actually don't think anything's really changed and we are fine with just a pretty face. But the pageant circuit flaunts it so openly that we need to believe it's wrong in order to keep feminists off our backs.
So it's wrong. And we don't watch them anymore. Of course we're fine with looking at other women who are pointless and ultimately setting feminism back fifty years like Megan Fox and Kim Kardashian.
But congrats to Miss USA. She...uh...deserves it?
